White can take the black knight. He has a choice: use his rook or his knight. What should he do?
Using the knight (red arrow) is a bad plan. The knight is defender. It protects the bishop.
Moving the knight is removing the defense. Black’s rook will take the bishop.
A knight for a bishop, that’s an even trade.
White can do better! How?
By using the rook to take the black knight.
White gets 3 points and Black gets nothing, since the bishop is still protected.
